BusMinder is an Open Source (AGPL) web application that creates email and SMS reminders, based on real-time public transit information.
There is no currently known instance of BusMinder running at the moment.
The reference implementation of BusMinder was generously sponsored by Azavea's internal research program, but was taken down based on a pantent (Patent No. 6,741,927) claim by Martin Kelly Jones, ArrivalStar S.A. and Melvino Technology Limited. Because the code was already available under an open source license, we have continued to make it available for research purposes, but please be aware that you may need to negotiate a license for its public or commercial use.
This application was inspired by the MBTA's Real Time Application Challenge, held in February of 2010. The application was designed to showcase what could be done with real-time information coming from buses and other public transit vehicles.
The application evolved, and generalized the transit agencies, and now supports multiple transit agencies. At the time of this writing (January 3rd, 2011), BusMinder supports the following transit agencies:
You can help make BusMinder better! Go to the project wiki to find out more information about what you can do to bring BusMinder to your city, or make it better.
A big thank-you goes out to Azavea, for funding a portion of the development of BusMinder, and providing the infrastructure and support for the reference implementation of BusMinder.
